I will advocate for collaboration and transparency, ensuring efficient services and fiscal responsibility. Together, we can shape a brighter future for Black Hawk County.
Committed to You
As a lifelong Cedar Valley resident and committed community advocate, I have spent over 25 years fostering economic growth and development. As County Supervisor, my unwavering dedication to job creation, quality of life, and collaborative governance continues to drive progress and ensure a thriving future for Black Hawk County. Join me in building a vibrant, prosperous community for all.
Committed To Community
I've lived in the Cedar Valley all my life. My mother, a stay-at-home mom and my father, a Korean War veteran and a John Deere worker for 35 years worked hard so that my two brothers and I would have better lives and more opportunities. I learned the value of hard work, commitment to family, and the importance of education from them. I attended Hawkeye Community College and later graduated from the University of Northern Iowa.
I ran for county supervisor in 2012 at the request of others who knew how much I wanted our young people to stay in the area to live, work and raise their families in Black Hawk County and they felt I could make a difference. To have a vibrant community, people must have good paying jobs, but it’s equally important to have a great quality of life. Needless to say, those same factors will assure us that future generations will also stay in the area to live, work, and raise families.
dedicated to progress
While each of us may have a different vision for the place we call home, we all want Black Hawk County to be the best place to live in the State of Iowa. The growth and development of the County should be the principal responsibility of the Board of Supervisors. The current Board of Supervisors approved developing a strategic plan for the County in 2024, and it’s the role of the elected officials to constantly monitor and evaluate progress of the plan as well as make changes when needed. We may not always agree, but I will work long and hard to find solutions and do what is needed to get the job done.
Helping Build Thriving Communities
We’re a county of hard-working individuals, businesses, governments and non-profits working to make Black Hawk County a better place.
The Board of Supervisors need to be leaders in community and economic development activities ensuring that the County and its communities are positioned for growth and development. With a population of over 130,000, Black Hawk County is the 5th largest county in population and should be a leader in the State.
Encourage Collaboration
I’m a firm believer that so much more is accomplished when we work together in true collaboration. It is important to work with counties and cities as well as others to increase efficiencies, share best practices, and examine areas where public programs and/or services can be improved or consolidated.
The County currently has agreements in place where services are shared, and to build upon the work already being done, I would like to further those relationships as well as develop new partnerships with others who are also working for the betterment of Black Hawk County. That will often times require that we reach out to individuals and groups that don't always agree with us, and I’m happy to reach out to others to have substantive discussions on any and all issues.
I believe communication is critical, and residents should be comfortable in approaching the Board of Supervisors with issues or concerns because elected officials can’t represent the people if they don’t listen to them. I’m also committed to transparency in government.
provide high quality essential services
I believe it is the role of the Board of Supervisors to provide the best possible county services to residents always mindful of our quality of life and fiscal responsibility. With reduced funding from the state and federal government, it has become difficult for the County to provide services that residents have come to expect, so each program or service needs to be evaluated for effectiveness and efficiencies to determine if there is a better of way of providing services. Whether it's assistance for Veterans, dental exams for children, maintenance of roads and bridges or improving trails and parks, working together with the County's dedicated employees, we are continually evaluating county projects and programs to provide the best services to residents. As a steward of the County’s revenues, I will listen, gather facts, and apply sound judgment when making decisions that impact the citizens of Black Hawk County.
